Each month, I like to discuss at topic that will benefit my customers. Some months that is reminder of some of the new or unique things about Gellite Candles, but often times, they are general marketing tips relating to a retail location. I will keep the most recent article on this page for the month and then after that, they will be saved out by the article headline. If you like the articles, or have a suggestion for future issues, drop me a line at
Improving your sales by getting to know your customer!
This month, I thought that I would continue my thoughts on ways to improve your
sales. Let's think about your target market. Who exactly buys your products?
Is there a specific age group, gender, income level, or geographic area that
makes up a large portion of your sales? If you can answer that question, you
are already ahead of most places. If you can't, why not?
While it may seem like a lot of work to collect customer information, it can
prove to be invaluable, especially when times are lean as they are now. I am not saying that
you have to ask your customers all kinds of questions, but simply getting a
name and address can start you down the path. There are a variety of ways that
you can get it. The first would be to simply ask if they would like to be on
your mailing list.
Entice them to sign up with the promise of future promotions. Another way
would be with a frequent shopper program. You have all seen the punch cards
where after so many purchases, you earn a free item. Many of these places miss
the boat by never actually getting the customers address. Why not have a two
part card that they fill out your half and then get the other half to be
punched, or at least collect the info when they redeem the card.
Another great way to collect this info is with a survey. There are many
resources for free or inexpensive online surveys. One of them is
www.surveymonkey.com Here you can create a survey and if you tailor your
questions correctly, you may even find new products that your customers are
looking to buy.
Next month I will continue with some ideas on what to do with this new found
information.
Until next month, good sales to all!
